Makeup tips every mature woman should know and apply to have healthy youthful looking skin

When you are of a certain age, you'll notice that your skin starts to feel different. That’s because, as time goes by, our skin cells go through the same changes our body does. To keep everything as healthy as possible, you need to take proper care of your skin - and that involves make up.

I will share with you the top 9 makeup tips that every woman over 50 should know, and use them everyday if possible. That way, not only will you look younger, but you’ll also take better care of your skin and prevent precocious aging.

These tips were taught to me by Ray Morris, one of the world's most influential and renowned makeup artist with tons of experience dealing with mature skin. And now I'll be passing on that information to you!

Do you like to wear your hair in a high ponytail or do you prefer it in a lower back ponytail? I’ll guess: you love the high ponytail because it brings your face up, right? That’s the case for most of us. To enhance this effect, use an eye makeup that bring your eyes up. If you’re a bacak ponytail kind of girl, you should go for a wider look that goes the same way your hair is pulling your face. Try to use your eyeshadow and eyeliner in order to boost the natural lift from the ponytail. Play a little and find your sweet spot.

This is a great tip from Dr. Obligee from Zito Health. Get your fingers and rub your lips vigorously before you go to bed! That stimulates the blood flow, and it is free and healthy. No need for lip balm! Try this for a week, and thank me later. By the end of that time, you’ll make all the dryness go away, revealing soft supple lips . Unless you’re dehydrated, which is also a cause for dry lips. So be sure to drink a lot of fluids!

Yes, you read that correctly, if your lips are still dry, try a nipple cream on your lips. It is a little weird, but it is amazing! The one that I use has only one ingredient called lanolin. Just put it on your lips and you’ll feel amazing! The best part is that you can save some money and still have a great quality product. Just split the content of the bottle into smaller containers, and be sure to keep one in your purse, one in your car, another one in the bathroom and maybe one next to your bed. That way, you’ll always have it around!

Another fantastic tip is to curve the highlight on your cheek slightly upwards, drawing the eyes out. If you highlight downwards, you are going to look much older - and that’s the opposite of what we want, isn’t it?

Try to find a highlighter that makes your skin look naturally “glowy” and luminous. Just pay attention and don’t exaggerate, if you can see the product on there, you’ll lose the natural look and feel. A light gentle curve along your cheeks goes a long way.

Adding some contrasting colors to your eyes to make them pop is perfect for mature women, especially when we want to use minimal amounts of makeup to keep that natural look that brings your face to life. Matching the right colors creates a particularly beautiful effect and draws attention to the eyes.

If you have grey eyes, consider yourself lucky: they are neutral and can be brightened with any color. For blue eyes, the golden, orangey eyeshadow on top of the eyeliner, with a bit of a lifting effect will create a nice contrast.

Don’t you hate when your mascara ends up under your eyes or on your eyelids? I certainly do. That happens when the mascara is mixed with oil, it will dissolve… so when you add the oils of foundations, moisturizers, serums and the natural skin oils, the mascara will bleed for sure. So try to find a mascara that works best for your eyelids that won’t dissolve with the oils of your skin.

Lipsticks are made of a waxy substance, and that means it will melt thanks to the temperature of our body. To avoid lipstick bleed, go for one with a high pigmentation so you can wear a lot less of it. It is also easier, because you just need to tap a high pigment lipstick on your lips and it stays there all day. If you choose a creamy lipstick with low pigment, it is going to melt during the day. Next time you are shopping around for lipstick, pat a little on your finger to check out how it’s going to look, to make sure you are getting the right color.

When you’re wearing a red lipstick without foundation, the color of the lipstick is going to draw out the red in your face. That is a problem due to those little red veins in our skin, making the skin looks blotchy. Just get a really good base on your skin first, and then add the color. Remember that if you’re going to use lipstick to lift your face, make sure to even out your skin tone.

Last but not least, when we are young we tend to pack on a lot of makeup in the beginning of the day. Don’t do that, because it will harm your skin since it blocks your pores. To make your life easier, get a little container with three compartments, and put a bit of foundation, blush and highlighter so you can carry them around wherever you go. That way, you’ll always look fresh and awake. Also, your skin will always be oxygenated and healthy.
